studied dance and choreography at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen. After his graduation he worked as a dancer, for Pina Bausch and for V.A. Wölfl/NEUER TANZ. Next to the continuous work with his ensemble, which he founded in 2004, he also works a guest-choreograph and –teacher. He choreographed a dance production with Malaysian artists in Kuala Lumpur for the Goethe-Institute in 2007. In May 2008 he attended a congress for the creative exchange among choreographers in Beijing in the context of Chin-A-Moves.
In 2009 Ben J. Riepe was selected for the “Spitzenförderung”, a three-year-funding-project by the government of North-Rhine-Westphalia, as one of four choreographers. He created a production for the Folkwang Tanzstudio as a guest choreographer in the first half of 2009. In November 2009 he received the “Förderpreis des Landes NRW für junge Künstler und Künstlerinnen”, a price that honours young artists and their work in NRW. Also in 2009 he attended an exchange program for choreographers by the World Dance Alliance in New Delhi.
Ben J. Riepe started developing his own ensemble in 2004. The company, legally a registered non-profit association, now works continuously in its own production space in Düsseldorf. As a teacher he continues to give workshops in the fields of coaching for choreographers, performance-skills and improvisation, for both choreographers and performance artists.
